Judy and Victor's Story

Judy Hill is an amazing woman and if you ever meet her you must ask her about Victor. Here is my attempt to tell her story.

Several years ago Judy came to Nicaragua on a medical mission. While in a clinic Victor's mother entered her room. Victor was 17 months old and about 10 lbs. He was going to die. His trachea and windpipe were one tube and when he was fed the food would go into his lungs and he would get pneumonia. A feeding tube was inserted into his stomach but the food was still going up his trachea and entering into his lungs. He was only being fed thin watery liquids with very little nutrition. His cry sounded like a kitten meowing. He couldn't sit up on his own. Victor was beyond Nicaraguan medicine and he was going to die.

Judy felt God very clearly telling her that she needed to tell Victor's mom that she would get Victor to the states and take care of his medical needs. Judy didn't know how that could possible happen but she took a leap of faith.

When Judy returned to the US she started a round of calls to find out what she needed to do. It was complex. She needed doctor to do it for free. She needed a hospital that would do it for free. She needed free airline tickets. She needed free housing for Victor and his mom for the duration of their stay. She needed the US to tell the Nicaraguan government that they would be responsible for Victor's care. She needed a miracle.

After about 2 months and 60 phone calls to about 60 hospitals Judy still did not have medical care for Victor. Then her miracle happened. In a short time through a random act (otherwise known as God) she had a doctor, a hospital, two airplane tickets and housing.

Victor and his mom flew to the US to begin the surgery, but Victor was too weak. He needed to gain some weight so there was a wait. When he was strong enough he went through the surgery but he developed complications. Victor was in the US 10 months and his medical care cost $2 million. All provided by God for free.

On Monday Judy met Victor for the first time in 4 years. He is a beautiful happy boy. His mother became a Christian at the medical clinic's chapel. Judy has seen the end result of being in God's will. We don't always get a chance to see the end of what God has asked us to do but when we do it's amazing.

God gave Judy a beautiful Nicaragua rainbow over her reunion with Victor and his mother. Victor's mother still has difficulties. Her husband left not believing that Victor or his wife was coming back. But he still sends money to support his family -- unusual for Nicaraguan men. Continue to pray for her and pray that little Victor will grow to be a strong man of God.

Judy says: I'm home now in body, but my heart and spirit remains in Nicaragua. The story of Victor is so precious, because on short term missions we sow seeds, but rarely see the harvest. I was but a link in a group of many, many people that God worked through to make Victor's story happen, and I feel incredibly blessed to have been allowed to see him healthy and happy. I wonder what great things God has planned for this little boy who has had the hand of God placed on him!
